½ AN ANIMAL ON A STICK
This song appears in Seaguy: Slaves of Mickey Eye as the accompanying theme for a new cartoon creature and must-have toy (Lotharius calls it the ‘numminal exo-placenta’ – ‘numminal’ being a Mickey Eye portmanteau word mulching together animal, mindless consumption ‘num num’ and nominal) that’s designed to bond with its owner and drain their will by doing all the hard thinking for them. Another expression of media’s time-consuming ‘Oblivion Machine’ from Multiversity perhaps.
The singing style is loosely inspired by Lee Marvin’s magnificent, grinding ‘I was born under a wandrin’ star – ‘ and you may hear distant reverberations of that melody in this one.
I asked Jay to make it sound increasingly ‘sticky’ and gluey towards the end which he did to desirably unpleasant effect. The tune disintegrates with me clattering around the pegs then fades into slobbering, munching sounds as ½ an animal feeds on your mind until only a vacant hollow remains…
And that was your head, that was…
½ an animal on a stick
He needs to give your brains a lick
So if you meet him, just say yer sick
½ an animal on a stick…
He wants to know what makes you tick
So when you see him don’t play his tricks!
½ an animal on a stick…
½ an animal on a stick
He needs to give your brains a lick
So if you meet him, just say yer sick
½ an animal on a stick…
Do not reproduce without permission or else…1/2 an animal.
