I feel like this could never happen for a variety of business-related reasons but I would love to see these annotations included in the (much hoped for) Absolute Edition release of yours and Liam’s run on GL

"I only draw attention to what was always there, as if to inadvertently point out that many of the same so-called progressive ideas, complete with predictable reactionary responses, have been with us on repeat since the dawn of human history" - GM. That's the good stuff. Thanks!

DHARMA (n.) :

The Chief :  Now, this shark  that swims ALONE -- what's it called…?

Hooper :  ‘Rogue’.

The Chief :‘Rogue’, yeah…

Now, THIS Guy, he keeps swimmin' around  in a place where The Feeding is Good until The Food Supply is GONE. Right?

Hooper : That's called ‘Territoriality’ —  It’s just A Theory,  that I happen to •agree• with.

The Chief : Then why don't we have ONE more drink and go down and CUT That Shark OPEN?

The Wife : Martin? Can you DO that?

The Chief :

I can Do Anything, I'm The Chief of Police.

One of the first questions Number 6 asks when he wakes up in The Village and doesn’t know where he is or what happened to him (after ‘Where am I?’ ‘What is This Place?’ and ‘Where is This?’), is

“Where’s The POLICE Station?”

That always makes me laugh.

(of course, there •isn’t• one - they just take to hospital after Rover attacks you (assuming you survive.)

And,

P.C. Nicholas Angel’s badge number is 777,

(so is Alexander DeLarge’s),

and Joe Friday’s is 714 (which is a 7 and two 7s)

....and the numeral 7 DOES NOT EXIT in The Village, because it is the sigil of Archangel St. Michael and Angels do not intercede die souls in Purgatory.

So now you pass •both• tests, Hal Jordan...."

BEFORE THE LAW : Before The Law, There stands A Guard.

A Man comes from The Country, begging admittance to The Law.

But The Guard cannot admit him.

May he hope to enter at a later time? 'That is possible', said The Guard.

The Man tries to peer through The Entrance.

He'd been taught that The Law was to be accessible to every Man.

"Do not attempt to enter without My Permission", says The Guard.

"I am very Powerful. Yet I am The Least of all The Guards.

From Hall to Hall, Door after Door,

Each Guard is more Powerful than The Last.”

By The Guard's Permission, The Man sits by The Side of The Door, and there he waits.

For YEARS, He waits.

Everything he HAS, he gives away in The Hope of BRIBING The Guard, who never fails to Say to Him :

“I Take What You Give Me, only so that You Will Not Feel that You Left Something Un-Done."

Keeping His Watch during the long years, The Man has come to know even The Fleas on The Guard's fur collar.

Growing childish in old age, he begs the fleas to persuade The Guard to change His Mind and Allow Him to Enter.

His Sight has dimmed, but in The Darkness he perceives a radiance streaming immortally from The Door of The Law.

And now, before He dies, all He's experienced condenses into one Question,

A Question He's never ASKED.

He beckons The Guard.

Says The Guard, "You are insatiable! What is it now?"

Says The Man, "Every Man strives to attain The Law.

How is it then that in all these years, no one else has ever come here, seeking admittance?"

His Hearing has failed, so The Guard YELLS into His Ear :

"Nobody Else but You could EVER have obtained admittance.

No-one else could Enter This Door!"

"This Door," He Says, "was intended, ONLY for YOU!

And, Now — I'm going to close it."

This Tale is Told during The Story called "The Trial".

It's been said that The Logic of This Story is The Logic of a Dream...

Or a Nightmare.....

Also : “The story of Aladdin is classified in the Aarne–Thompson–Uther Index as tale type ATU 561, “Aladdin”, after the character.

In the Index, the Aladdin story is situated next to two similar tale types: ATU 560, The Magic Ring, and ATU 562, The Spirit in the Blue Light.

ALL stories deal with a down-on-his-luck and impoverished BOY or SOLDIER, who finds a magical item (RING, LAMP, TINDERBOX) that Grants His Wishes.

In this tale type, the magical item is STOLEN, but eventually •recovered• thanks to the use of ANOTHER magical object.”

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- I LOVE The Five Doctors ending.

The Green Lightsabre is The True Will of The Universe, and likewise, ALL Tramps are Liam Neeson.

Can Ye Spare Some CUTTER, Me Brother...?

Spotted this marginalia today in the character sketch for Power Ring of Earth-3 in the backmatter of JLA : Earth-Two -- "POWER RING Insignia (I don't know what it is either)"

Well, it's a crooked cross, isn't it? Completely off-centre --

A Green Lantern power battery, viewed from the side, is a perfect, self-symmetrical '+' cross/hourglass.... I know, I've got one on my desk, I stare at it a lot (and, often.)

The shape of The Power Battery, that's the GL insignia, and that's also the 24-Hours : The King is Dead, Long Live The Qing! You just have to turn it upside down, and the energy begins flowing again, just like The Sand, in the OTHER direction for another 24 Hours -- The Ancient Kryptonian Prophecy is fulfilled, The Son becomes The Father, etc., etc.

But The Hourglass was ALWAYS there.

Now that the annotations are over, I think this is the perfect time to finally purchase the rest of the series (stopped reading/collecting comics altogether around the time season 2 started). Looking forward to going back over all the annotations posts while doing a read-through.
