It has been very interesting to follow your latest works keeping in mind what they really are: last works before an indefinite break for an even longer indefinite period.
And, to be honest, seeing you involved in a more personal work like "In Xanaduum..." is far more rewarding than keeping up with a monthly title with your name on the cover, amid the whirlwind of other titles and timelines and opinions that are dumped weekly. I think that now more than ever we need these little islands of personal meaning as a form of resistance to the dismantling of reality that we are witness to on a daily basis.
I like books. I think there's value in the tactile/psychomotor experience. And remember that your touchscreen/smartphone/monitor is also a physical object--not some perfect vessel for the transmission of pure information, but a flawed technology that shapes the reading experience and hence our understanding of the text.
Holy wow! My skin is tingling! I feel like I'm back in the day reading Invisible ink! Thanks so much Grant, for starting this substack and offering us the shape of your brain again. You helped me hone my sigil skills back in the day, which has enhanced my life exponentially! I'm grateful for another opportunity to support your creativity, while being inspired to hone my own. Love you so much!
You stated that this post should not be shared "without permission" but then give us freedom to share in the Xanaduum boilerplate. Just FYI-is this occult confusion? :)
The Green Lantern plays like a classic rock ‘n’ roll album and issue 3 specifically has a twist worthy of The Twilight Zone. It might be my favourite series at the end of the day. (Does anybody know if GL: Blackstars will ever be collected in some way?)
When I first started reading comics I ignored superheroes, thinking they were an infantile concept. Your superhero works certainly changed that for me, although I started reading you with Invisibles and The Filth. I’m afraid I’ve stopped reading superheroes once again however. Mostly due to storage issues. But I’m going to seek out your final DC works now (the second season of Green Lantern and Superman and the Authority). This was a really fascinating post as I had wondered if your interest in writing superheroes were waning (though the quality of what you were still writing did not).

Ma'at is already here.
I enjoyed both "Green Lantern" and "Superman and the Authority" so very much. Thanks for going out on the highest of notes. Cheers!
This is fascinating, I hope one day we can get this in print for all time. A real ‘hold in my hands’ artefact. Supergods Part 2 perhaps?
Infantile Object Obsession.

imagine wanting to hold knowledge- rather than simply understanding it.

The Green Lantern was such an amazing series, I'm so glad you stuck around DC long enough to get it to us.
Hear me, you wrangling pirates, that fall out
In sharing that which you have pill'd from me!
Which of you trembles not that looks on me?
If not, that, I being King, you bow like subjects,
Yet that, by you deposed, you quake like rebels?
O gentle villain, do not turn away!
Loyalty is a Much-Misunderstood Thing.
Thank you for your generosity in sharing this experience. I just signed up for the year. Looking forward to the journey ahead!
I would love to hear if there was a formal "Fifth World" pitch/plan like Bleeding Cool suggests; that was later rejected.
Especially since 5G sounds so similar to the original notion.

What a fascinating read. Thanks for sharing, Grant! So excited to keep reading.

Blackstars was collected with Season 2 of The Green Lantern.
